The Roman Catholic parish church Scheiblingkirchen is located in Scheiblingkirchen in the market town of Scheiblingkirchen-Thernberg in Lower Austria . The parish church of Maria Magdalena and Rupert , incorporated into the Reichersberg monastery, belongs to the Kirchberg deanery in the Archdiocese of Vienna . The church and the surrounding defensive wall remains are under monument protection .

history

The church is a remarkable Romanesque round church from the 12th century with extensions from the 19th century. To the south and west of the church, remains of the rubble stone masonry of the former surrounding medieval churchyard wall have been preserved. The church was built around 1130/1140 by the Lords of Gleissenfeld and was possibly consecrated by Archbishop Eberhard von Salzburg in 1147 together with the Thernberg parish church . The exact measurement of the church axis showed that this axis is based on the patronage day of Maria Magdalena, July 22nd. In the Baroque era , the top of the wall was raised by around 1.5 m as a defensive storey with loopholes. In 1754 the interior of the church was redesigned in Baroque style. In 1783/1784 the church was elevated to a parish church. In 1862 a chapel and tower were added. A restoration took place in 1924. In 1920 the church was painted by the painter Leopold Daringer and after the paintings were destroyed by an earthquake, the interior of the church was remodeled in 1972.

architecture

Church exterior

The cylindrical structure with a conical roof carries a hexagonal roof turret from 1816 and has a retracted, specially roofed round apse . The facade shows itself as unplastered ashlar masonry and small Romanesque arched windows in funnel embrasures.

Church interior

In the dome cross vault, the central room has massive, abutting ribbon ribs on relief quarter-circle consoles. The consoles show a dragon in the west and a leaf in the east.

Furnishing

The pulpit around 1800 shows a relief Lamb of God on the basket and the statue of the Good Shepherd on the sound cover.

The organ was built by Rudolf Novak (1969).
