In ancient times, the area was part of the Noricum province .

On January 1, 1971, the communities Scheiblingkirchen and Thernberg were merged to form the community Scheiblingkirchen-Thernberg.

According to data from the 2001 census , 92.7% of the population are Roman Catholic and 1.0% Protestant . 0.3% are Muslims , 0.1% belong to Orthodox churches . 4.8% of the population have no religious denomination.
