Prigglitz is a municipality with 436 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Neunkirchen district in Lower Austria .

geography

Prigglitz is part of the industrial district in the south-east of Lower Austria. It is located at 635 m above sea level north of Gloggnitz above the Schwarzatal . The area of ​​the municipality covers 18.01 km², 65.63% of the area is forested.

Former municipal office and fire station

The name Prigglitz was mentioned for the first time in 1264 and is equated with the meaning of small bridge ; the -itz indicates a Slavic influence. The first settlers are believed to be Noric and Celtic miners.

According to the data of the 2001 census , 86.0% of the population were Roman Catholic , 3.7% Protestant , 1.8% Muslim , 2.5% belonged to Orthodox churches , and 5.4% of the population had no religious denomination.
