The Roman Catholic parish church of Schlins is located in the municipality of Schlins in the Feldkirch district in Vorarlberg . It is consecrated to the dogma of the Immaculate Conception of the Mother of God and belongs to the Feldkirch deanery in the Feldkirch diocese . The building is a listed building .

history

Around 821 a Hilariuskirche and 940 an Ecclesia S. Michaelis in Sline et capella S. Mariae are mentioned. Einsiedeln Abbey has owned property since 949 . The choir was consecrated in 1412. A pastor is mentioned in a document in 1503. The present church was consecrated in 1699 and renovated in 1781, 1887, 1959 and 1963.

architecture

The baroque church building consists of a nave and a retracted choir under a shared gable roof. The northwest tower has an onion dome. To the north and south of the nave and choir, sacristy extensions under hipped roofs are connected. The west facade has a brickwork sign with a ribbed vault on a round arched arcade on two pillars. There is a Raitenau coat of arms with a relief of God the Father and the Holy Spirit, dated 1599. The tower with an onion dome from 1790 has a two-storey upper floor with arched sound openings and an octagonal bell chamber with flat arched sound openings.

The two-bay nave has a barrel vault with deep stitch caps. In each yoke there are two flat arched windows with round windows above. There are stucco ribbons with leaves and quatrefoil fields. The west gallery with a curved parapet with stucco decoration from the middle of the 18th century stands on two columns. The high choir arch opens to the single-yoke, drawn-in choir with a 3/8 end and a ribbed vault on spiers.

Furnishing

The frescoes from 1889 are by Johann Kärle , in the choir Mary with the Child and the Coronation of Mary, in the nave in front the protective mantle Madonna, the Annunciation and in the back Holy Walk . In the center of the choir is the figure of the Virgin and Child by Albert Rauch from 1962. The figures, on the left, St. Nicholas and on the right St. Barbara, created around 1680.

On the choir arch wall on the left is an ambo and a crucifix from the middle of the 19th century, on the right a painting with the Adoration of the Shepherds from 1700. The Stations of the Cross date from the beginning of the 18th century. The lecture cross and the sandstone baptismal font are from the middle of the 17th century.

The organ was built in 1804 by Josef Birgaentzle. In 1857 it was rebuilt by Alois Schönach . There are two bells, one from the 15th century, the second marked 1514.

The church is surrounded by a cemetery. The new morgue, built in 1982 according to plans by Albert Rauch, has concrete glass windows and a crucifix by Albert Rauch.
