history

The indirect predecessor church, the Stoober Bergkirche , situated in a dominant position on a hill to the east of the village and used by the Protestant congregation dominating its members until around 1670, was renovated between 1871 and 1878 due to its desolate condition. Shortly afterwards, in 1883, the bishop approved a completely new building, which should enable the necessary expansion of the space in the mountain church. For financial reasons, the plans could not be implemented at that time.

In 1889 the Kalvarienberg was laid out around the mountain church and the Kalvarienberg group from South Tyrol was purchased. In addition, an extension or a new building of the church, which had become too small, was planned. A chapel was built in the Ortsried to spare the believers the long way to the church hill for small devotions. As early as 1888, by adapting a schoolhouse that had become vacant, it was possible to establish an emergency church in the village, which offered more space than the mountain church.

A new church was built due to the difficult economic situation, but only in the 1950s. So there was an emergency church in Stoob between 1888 and 1956, while the mountain church was only used as a calvary chapel (and fell into disrepair after the new parish church was opened).

The new parish church was built in the place of the dilapidated emergency church, east of the main street in the center of the village on a rectangular square, at the intersection of the junction to Kirchengasse, between 1956 and 1959 according to the plans of the architect Ladislaus Hruska . The construction work was the responsibility of the Stoober builder Robert Wukowits. The shell construction was completed by the end of 1957 through the use of Belgian construction firms - in which, among other things, a bell showing the year 1535 was transferred from the broken tower of the mountain church.

On November 2, 1958, the church was given a name , and the consecration took place on June 28, 1959 after all the work had been completed. An exterior renovation of the church was carried out in 1979;
