history

A chapel was mentioned in documents in 1209. The church was incorporated into Vorau Abbey and elevated to a parish church in the 13th century. Because of the creation of a pilgrimage to St. Patritius, the church was expanded from 1730 to 1735 according to the plans of the builder Andreas Strassgietl. The church was badly damaged in the war in April 1945. The baroque interior is burned. The church was rebuilt in 1946 and refurbished in the following years. In 1960/1961 the church was restored inside and 1968 outside.

Above the west portal is a sgraffito Immaculata by the painter Anton Fötsch (1951). The door wing of the west portal was created by the sculptor Franz Weiss (1974).

The former ceiling decoration with stucco work and the frescoes painted around 1735/1738 by the painter Josef Georg Mayer have been destroyed, there are still remains of stucco in the reveals of the ox-eye windows and in the transept arms, in the transept arms there are cartouches with scenes from the life of Saint Patritius, Maria, Josef, Leonhard by the painter Karl Koch from 1810/1811.
