The peacock's hair fern ( Adiantum patum ) is a species of the genus maidenhair fern .
features
The peacock's hair fern is a perennial plant that reaches heights of 20 to 60 centimeters. It forms a rhizome . The outline of the leaf blade is semicircular to circular, its midrib forks into 2 similar branches. The feathers have a length of up to 2 centimeters, there are more than 2 spore-bearing lobes.
The spore ripening is in July and August.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 58, 60, 87, 118 or 120.
Occurrence
The peacock's hair fern occurs in North America, East Asia and in the Himalayas in humus-rich, moist forests, riparian zones and waterfalls.

The peacock's hair fern is rarely used as an ornamental plant in groups of trees. It has been in culture since 1635 at the latest. There are several types (selection):
- 'Compactum': The plant is stocky.
- 'Laciniatum': The leaflets are slit.
- 'Imbricatum': The feathers overlap, the plant reaches heights of 10 to 20 centimeters.
