Horse ripper

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Horse ripper is a slang term for people who mutilate (especially slit open) and / or kill horses . It is based on the British serial killer Jack the Ripper .

causes

Forensic experts usually assume that the perpetrators are mentally and / or sexually disturbed. The horses are often injured on the genitals.

Fact series in Northern Germany

It has been proven that a serial offender attacked horses in northern Germany in the federal states of Brandenburg , Saxony-Anhalt , Saxony and Lower Saxony between 1993 and 2003 . The crime scenes, with a focus on Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, were in the Bremen - Hamburg - Schwerin - Hanover area . After a short time, the tabloid media dubbed the perpetrator “horse ripper” because he often slit horses' bellies. Mainly he inflicted injuries on them with stabbing (knife, lance) and firearms(Pistol, rifle), which often led to death. Experts assume a lone perpetrator, but whose actions have led to copying by free riders . Between 1993 and 2003, more than 100 animals were killed in around 50 crimes.

Investigation group and perpetrator profile

The Lower Saxony State Criminal Police Office maintained the horse investigation team between 1999 and 2005 based on this fact . Using the operative case analysis, the police drew up a profile of the perpetrators , according to which it was a male person around 50 years of age with a strong stature. According to the profile, the perpetrator should come from the new federal states, live in isolation, be familiar with metalworking, have access to the workshop and vehicle and be a professional or private sports shooter or hunter. He has great inhibitions in dealing with women and should be able to deal with horses. In 2004 the horse ripper was searched unsolved by file number XY ... 550 calls were received, 150 of which were followed up as serious leads. However, the perpetrator could not be identified. The reward for catching the perpetrator has been around 120,000 euros since 2004 (after an increase by private donors).

Literary processing

Several book authors were inspired by the topic. In his 2006 book The Other Blood , the writer Andree Hesse made the horse ripper the subject of a crime thriller. The British playwright Peter Shaffer processed the motif in his 1973 play Equus , which shows the psychosexual misdevelopment of a young person. Also in 2006 was the crime thriller Blutrausch by Wolfenbüttel author Uwe Brackmann, which appeared as part of his crime series Mike Winter , which is set in and around Bremen .

In the crime scene The sun dies like an animal, broadcast on January 18, 2015, the inspectors Lena Odenthal and Mario Kopper investigate the case of a horse molester.
