Plant Society (Association)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Plant societies are organizations, in German-speaking countries mostly associations , in which people come together who deal intensively with a certain group of plants . These associations usually pursue different tasks than, for example, the botanical societies , which - often in connection with a university , a museum or a botanical garden - have scientific , research-promoting and general botanical objectives. The plant societies, on the other hand, are often in connection with horticultural societies , with which they have the goals of maintaining, cultivating and breeding certain groups of plants in common, but they can also be active in nature conservation or research-promoting.

The various groups of plants, the names of which are usually expressed in the name of the individual associations, can only be defined taxonomically (e.g. genera or families such as bromeliads , fuchsias or lilies ), but can also be composed according to other characteristics such as life form or ecology (e.g. B. in perennials , bonsais or carnivores ). The respective societies are a platform for their members to exchange their knowledge, but also about plants. In addition, many companies also offer other services such as B. accessories, pollen or seed procurement up to botanical excursions .
