Phalaenopsis hieroglyphica is a plant of the genus Phalaenopsis within the family of orchid (Orchidaceae).

Vegetative characteristics
Phalaenopsis hieroglyphica grows monopodially as an epiphyte . It has some leathery leaves that are 30 to 40 centimeters long and 9 centimeters wide .
Generative characteristics
The approximately 40 centimeters long inflorescences branch out quite often. The flowers give off a light floral scent . The hermaphroditic flowers are zygomorphic and threefold with a size of about 5 centimeters × 6 centimeters . The six waxy bloom are creamy white-pink to pastel and pink with a few rows to cinnamon strokes covered. The lip is white with a pink center, the lateral lobes of the lip are yellow. After pollination , the petals recede and turn green ( flower metamorphosis ).

Phalaenopsis hieroglyphica is naturally common in the Philippines .
Systematics
It was first described in 1887 under the name Phalaenopsis lueddemanniana var. Hieroglyphica by Heinrich Gustav Reichenbach as a variety of Phalaenopsis lueddemanniana in Gard. Chron. , Series 3, 2, p. 586. In 1969 by HRSweet it was ranked as a separate species Phalaenopsis hieroglyphica in Amer. Orchid Soc. Bull. 38 published. The specific epithet hieroglyphica refers to the flower drawing reminiscent of hieroglyphics .
The form Phalaenopsis hieroglyphica f. flava was described as a form by Olaf Gruss in the journal Die Orchidee in 2009. In the World Checklist of Selected Plant Families at the Board of Trustees of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, London , it is considered a synonym for Phalaenopsis hieroglyphica . Other synonyms for Phalaenopsis hieroglyphica (Rchb. F.) HRSweet are: Phalaenopsis lueddemanniana subvar. hieroglyphica (Rchb. f.) AHKent , Polychilos hieroglyphica (Rchb. f.) Shim.
