Phantogram is an American electro rock duo from New York State .

history

Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel knew each other from their time together in Greenwich, before they moved to neighboring Saratoga Springs and started releasing music together as Charlie Everywhere in 2007. They produced two EPs on their own before signing with the BBE Records label in 2009 and calling themselves Phantogram from then on . In the same year they released the EP Running from the Cops there and a year later their debut LP Eyelid Movies . This put them in the top 40 of the independent charts. It was also released outside of the United States through the Barsuk label .

Another EP called Nightlife was released two years later . In the Heatseekers Charts they reached the top and for the first time they also managed to enter the official album charts . They also toured extensively, including with Beach House , The xx and M83 , and made recordings with Big Boi and the Flaming Lips . Eventually they switched to the bigger label Republic , where they released an EP under the band name in 2013.

They then worked with producer John Hill on their second album. Voices was released in early 2014 and reached number 11 in the album charts and number 3 in the alternative charts. The single Fall in Love was also a hit in the alternative charts and only barely missed the official single charts .

The following year they worked again with Big Boi and founded the Big Grams project . A joint EP was created in which Skrillex and Run the Jewels also participated as guests . With this release, too, they came into the top 40 of the album charts.

On their next release as Phantogram, they worked again with John Hill and also worked with Ricky Reed and Dan Wilson (of Semisonic ) on production. The album Three was released in autumn 2016. Although it was even better placed than the previous album at number 9, the press coverage was mixed and it did not stay in the charts for long.
