Pharao is a German Eurodance band around Kyra Pharao (bourgeois: Claudia Banerjee; born February 17, 1971 in Cairo ), which had some chart successes in Europe from summer 1994 to spring 1997.
Career
Founding of Pharaoh
The producers Alexander Hawking and Steffen Harning (aka DJ Stevie Steve) were behind the project. The latter has also been active in the music scene since 1997 as part of the DJ / producer duo Milk & Sugar .
The founding members, who should present the project, were the singer Kyra and Deon Blue (civil: Marcus Deon Thomas; * January 20, 1971), who was previously as Eric P. III member of the group Splash and Pharao after the release of the third single World of Magic left. Another unofficial member of the group was Kyra's three-meter-long Python Petit, which was always part of Pharaoh's concept and stage program. The concept of keeping a producer duo in the background and combining a male rapper with a female lead voice for the chorus for stage performances is a typical feature of Eurodance.
1994–1995: Debut album Pharao
Pharaoh's biggest hit, I Show You Secrets, was released in the spring of 1994, followed by There Is a Star in the fall of the same year . In the spring of 1995, the third single World of Magic came out, which was also a success in the German single charts . In Finland the album received a gold record in 1995 .
1997–1998: Comeback with The Return and departure of Deon Blue
After a two-year hiatus, the single Temple of Love was released in early 1997 . As a harbinger of the second album The Return , which was scheduled for the beginning of 1998 , the single Once Upon a Time came out in late 1997 .
The recordings only took place with Kyra Pharao without rapper Deon Blue, who had since left the group. Although Temple of Love still made it into the top 40 of the German charts, Pharao could no longer build on the old successes. Steffen Harning then founded the DJ / producer project Milk & Sugar together with DJ Michael Kronenberger .
1998–1999: solo projects
Pharaohs never officially dissolved. Today Kyra lives in Munich, works in events and continues to publish music under her stage name Kyra. In 1999 she published Indoru - Wunderkind together with Uwe Fahrenkrog-Petersen, who also works for Nena .
2000–2007: break and more records
After a long break from music, Kyra released the single Spaceman Came Traveling in 2005 with Seven and in 2007 saxophobic Satisfaction with DJ Yves Murasca. The latter was released with the help of the DJ / producer duo Milk & Sugar.
2014: reunification
In August 2014, Kyra announced the comeback of the act on Pharaoh's official Facebook page. In addition to Kyra, Prince Damien also took part in the comeback , who left the band during his Germany sucht den Superstar participation after his recall in Jamaica and was replaced by Siam aka Nik Felice . The single New Day was released in March 2017 .
