Phil Hayes (born July 21, 1966 in Littlehampton ) is a British - Swiss performance artist , actor , theater director and musician . From January 2008 to February 2009 he could be seen as Peter Tate in the program Giacobbo / Müller on the Swiss broadcaster SF 1 .

life and work

Hayes, who has lived in Switzerland since 1998, is considered one of the defining figures on the independent Swiss theater and performance scene. He studied Creative Arts in Newcastle upon Tyne . From 1990 to 1993 he was a member of the local Bruvvers Theater Company . For ten years he has been realizing performance and theater projects under the name First Cut Productions, which are shown in Switzerland and on international stages. He also works with the British performance group Forced Entertainment and the choreographer Simone Aughterlony .

In his solo piece The First Cut (2007) he reconstructed his life using pictures and videos. His play Where Were We is about a man who forgets an important day for his girlfriend. Then he tries to reconstruct what happened.

With his role as "Peter Tate" in the show Giacobbo / Müller , Hayes became known to a larger Swiss audience. At the end of each broadcast, he summarized what had happened in English with typical British humor . Hayes tries to separate the rest of his artistic life from the role of "Peter Tate". His biggest fear is to be in a room full of Peter Tate fans with completely wrong expectations. In February 2009, Swiss television announced that "Peter Tate" would no longer be part of the program for the time being due to a tour with his own projects. The German musician Buddy Casino took his place .

Phil is currently also active with his band Phil Hayes & The Trees and has released two albums on the DALA Produkte label since 2015.
