Buddy Casino (born April 7, 1955 in Monheim am Rhein ; actually Hartmut Grabe ) is a freelance German musician .

career

From 1977 to 1979 Casino studied jazz music at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern . From 1979 to 1982 he studied music at Berklee College of Music in Boston , from which he graduated with honors. He subsequently appeared with the cabaret formation Muttertach Five , with the Weather Girls , the Jazzkantine and with the jazz saxophonist Pee Wee Ellis , with Susanne Betancor and with Francesca Best .

But from 1982 he became known to a larger audience through his collaboration with the Mülheim jazz artist Helge Schneider . In his band Hardcore (together with Peter Thoms ) he played the piano and the Farfisa organ until 2000 and was jokingly referred to by Schneider as an American from Las Vegas (he had taken on the stage name Buddy Casino before that). The successful group appeared on television, including a. at Wetten, dass ..? on. Casino also played a role in Schneider's films Texas - Doc Snyder keeps the world in suspense (1993) and 00 Schneider - Hunt for Nihil Baxter (1994). He has lived in Berlin since 1999 .

His current band project is the trio The PickPockets . In addition, he joined in 2009 as a musical companion to his 50-year-old Hammond organ at the Swiss late-night telecast Giacobbo / Muller on. He also appears together with Rainald Grebe and is part of the Chapel of Reconciliation .
