Phil Lewis (athlete)

Phil Lewis (actually Philip John Lewis; born November 10, 1949 ) is a former British middle-distance runner who was also used in the 4-by-400-meter relay because of his sprinting strength .

At the British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1970 , he was eliminated for Wales starting over 800 m in the lead. The following year he won silver at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in 1971 in Sofia.

In 1974 he was eighth over 800 meters at the British Commonwealth Games in Christchurch and sixth in the Welsh 4-by-400-meter relay.

In 1971 and 1976 he was English indoor champion over 800 m.
