Phil May (athlete)

Phil May (actually Philip John May; born September 20, 1944 in Blackpool , United Kingdom , † November 30, 2014 in Claremont , Western Australia ) is a former Australian long and triple jumper .

In 1966 he was sixth in the long jump and tenth in the triple jump at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Kingston .

In the triple jump of the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, he came in sixth place.

In the following year he managed a double victory in the long and triple jump at the Pacific Conference Games in 1969. At the British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1970 , he won gold in the triple jump and silver in the long jump. In the 4 x 100 meter relay , he retired with the Australian team in the run-up due to a lost baton.

He won bronze in the triple jump at the Pacific Conference Games in 1973 and was fifth at the British Commonwealth Games in Christchurch in 1974.

He was four times in the long jump (1965, 1969-1971) and six times in the triple jump (1966-1969, 1971, 1973) Australian champion.
