Philip Allen, Baron Allen of Abbeydale
Philip Allen, Baron Allen of Abbeydale GCB (born July 8, 1912 in Sheffield , † November 27, 2007 ) was a British civil servant and peer.
Career
Allen was taught at King Edward VII School in Sheffield and Queens' College in Cambridge . He joined the Home Office in 1934 . From 1955 to 1960 he was Deputy Secretary to the Ministry of Housing and Local Government . In 1963 he succeeded Burke Trend as Second Permanent Secretary of the Treasury ( HM Treasury ) and was there responsible for the public service until 1966. From 1966 to 1972 he was permanent secretary in the home office.
In 1964 he was knighted as Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath and in 1970 he was raised to the Knight Grand Cross of the same order. In 1976 he was promoted to Life Peer as Baron Allen of Abbeydale , of the City of Sheffield . In the House of Lords , he sat as CROSSBENCHER . From 1973 to 1978 he was a member of the Pearson Commission.

Baron Allen was married to Marjorie Brenda Coe († 2002) since 1936. The marriage remained childless.
