Philipp Friedrich Welker

Philipp Friedrich Welker (born October 29, 1738 in Gotha ; † January 2, 1792 ibid) was a German lawyer, civil servant and archivist in the Duchy of Saxony-Gotha .

Life

Philipp Friedrich Welker was the son of the belt maker Johann Christian Welcker. He studied law at the University of Jena and after graduating in 1765 became a lawyer in Gotha. In 1768 he was employed in the ducal secret archive and promoted to secret registrar in 1772 and secret archivist in 1774 .

From 1768 to 1770 he was secretary of the ducal deputation , which was sent to Wetzlar for the revision of the Reich Chamber Court. In 1791 he was commissioned to teach the two Gotha princes August and Friedrich IV. About the history of the House of Saxony , because he had acquired extensive knowledge on this topic by working with the documents.

Philipp Friedrich Welker had been married to Johann Auguste Sophie, daughter of General War Paymaster Kögel from Dresden since April 17, 1776; they had five children together. One of his sons was the landscape and architecture painter Ernst Welker .

He was a member of the Freemasons in the lodge to the three roses in Jena .
