Count Philipp Gottfried zu Castell-Rüdenhausen

Philipp Gottfried Graf and Herr zu Castell-Rüdenhausen (nickname Lips ; born November 11, 1641 in Rüdenhausen ; † June 11, 1681 ibid) was ruler of the Grafschaft Castell from 1653 to 1681 .

The county before Philipp Gottfried

Two developments shaped the county of Castell in the 16th and 17th centuries. In 1586 an inheritance division came into force, which was to produce two different lines of the Counts of Castell for the next two centuries. The Castell-Remlingen line resided in the castles in Castell and Remlingen , while the Castell-Rüdenhausen line was located in Wiesenbronn Castle and in Rüdenhausen.

On the other hand, the priority was to rebuild the destroyed areas that had arisen from the Second Margrave War of 1552 to 1554 and the far more devastating Thirty Years War . Troops of the emperor passing through had devastated the Protestant country, the passing Protestant Swedes did the rest. In order to be prepared for the future wars, the male counts soon did more military service with larger sovereigns in the area.

Life

Philipp Gottfried was born on November 11, 1641 as the first child of Count Georg Friedrich and his wife Anna Luise, née Freiin zu Limpurg-Speckfeld , in Rüdenhausen. He had a total of eight siblings, but only five of them reached adulthood. After the early death of his father in 1653 he came under the guardianship of relatives Wolfgang Georg zu Castell-Remlingen and Heinrich Friedrich Graf zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg.

The young count attended high school in the Free Imperial City of Schweinfurt with his brothers . He then moved to Holland, where he received military training in Maastricht, among other places . Only when his mother died in 1663 did he return to Rüdenhausen and now, having come of age, took over the government of the county of Castell-Rüdenhausen. However, Philipp Gottfried had to obtain the consent of the brothers beforehand.

From 1672 to 1673 Philipp Gottfried held the rank of lieutenant colonel . He became part of an infantry regiment of the Frankish Reichskreis . On June 11, 1681, Philipp Gottfried Graf and Herr zu Castell-Rüdenhausen died in his place of residence. Several portraits were created showing the count. Including one that depicts the Count on the “Cruise to the Island of the Blessed” in the midst of his family.

Marriage and offspring

Count Philipp Gottfried married on January 8, 1670 in Dhaun Anna Sybilla game and Rhine Countess Dhaun . The marriage resulted in a total of eight children, but only six of them reached adulthood. The first-born son Johann Friedrich was established as his successor.
