Philipp Heinrich Welcker

Philipp Heinrich Welcker (born June 24, 1794 in Georgenthal , † June 8, 1871 in Gotha ) was a German writer .

Life

Born as the son of a ducal court attorney, he attended a school in Georgenthal and took private lessons from the pastor . He attended high school in Gotha and then studied law , alongside philology and literary history , in Jena . During his studies he became a member of the original fraternity in 1815 . Without a legal exam he left the university in 1816 and studied literature and poetics in Georgenthal for three years . In 1817 he took part in the Wartburg Festival. In 1820 he became a collaborator teacher at the illustrious grammar school in Gotha. He gave classes in Latin , German and natural sciences . In the ducal natural history cabinet in Gotha he became administrator in 1843 and later transferred to the ducal library in Gotha with the title of professor as secretary .
