Philipp Hofmeister (theologian)

Philipp Hofmeister OSB (born April 19, 1888 in Saulgau ; † January 21, 1969 in Neresheim Abbey ) was a German religious priest and canon lawyer .

Life

From 1907 to 1909 he studied law in Berlin and philosophy in Freiburg im Breisgau and from 1909 to 1912 theology in Tübingen . In 1912 he passed the state examination in theology in Tübingen and joined the Benedictine Abbey of Emmaus in Prague, which was part of the Beuron monastery association . In 1914 he became a teacher at the monastery oblate school for mathematics. From 1914 to 1918 he was chaplain of the Saxon troops. From 1918 to 1921 he was a lecturer for canon law at the University of Beuron . In 1921 he joined the Neresheim Abbey . After graduation in 1929 Dr. theol. in Tübingen he was the professor for canon law at the PTH Dillingen from 1946 to 1947 . In 1949 he became a private lecturer and associate professor for canon law, in particular for canonical procedural and criminal law at the LMU Munich . In 1956 he retired .
