life and work

As an author, Philipp Schiemann has published numerous prose and poetry volumes as well as four audio books from 1995 to the present day. Between 1996 and 2005 he carried out extensive reading tours through Germany, guest appearances in Sweden, Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and the USA. In Germany in the late 1990s, Schiemann was considered the enfant terrible of the alternative literary scene, which made a name for itself with blatant texts and striking appearances. He often appeared with other authors, including Jan Off , Johannes Finke and Stanley Deschle. Various of his readings have been released on spoken word sound carriers, including the double CD I'm a poet , one of which contains recordings made by Schiemann of private lectures by various beat literary writers from the San Francisco Bay Area , including Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Joanne Kyger. With changing guest musicians such. B. Jeff Dahl , Schiemann ran the band project Conscious as a singer and lyricist between 1989 and 2000 , with which numerous self-published studio recordings were made.

From 2003 commissioned work was added to his previous work, which thematically dealt with West Africa and the native religions of nature. In 2019, several illustrated books were created together with the ethnologist and photographer Henning Christoph, with whom Schiemann traveled to Ghana, Togo, Benin and North Carolina for research purposes. The texts written by Schiemann were translated into Dutch, English, French, Portuguese and Spanish. Schiemann also works as a graphic and media designer. An exhibition of his current artistic work with analog-digital mixed media was last held in Leipzig at the end of 2019. He is the father of a daughter (* 1998).
