The Philippine Postal Corporation ( Filipino : Korporasyong Koreo ng Pilipinas), PHLPost for short (until 2012 PhilPost ) is the post office in the Philippines . The Philpost headquarters are located on Liwasang Bonifacio Square in Manila .
history
The beginnings of the postal service in the Philippines go back to the Spanish colonial times. In 1767 the first post office was established in Manila, and in 1779 a new postal district was established in Spain , which included Manila and the entire Philippine archipelago . The first stamps were issued on February 1, 1854. It adorned the portrait of the Spanish Queen Isabella II . In 1877, three years after it was founded, it joined the Universal Postal Union . After the Philippine Revolution , the company was re-established in 1898 under President Emilio Aguinaldo as the Philippine Postal Service and from 1902 was under the Ministry of Economic Affairs. On January 1, 1922, the postal company again joined the Universal Postal Union, but now as an independent company that was no longer subject to Spanish control. The current company and name of the Philippine Postal Corporation go back to Law No. 7354 of April 2, 1992.
State Post
The Philippine Postal Corporation is a 100% state-owned company in the Philippines. The head office is in Manila and the board consists of seven members, among which Postmaster General Josefina M. Dela Cruz chairs. From 2004, the postal company was subordinate to the Commission for Information and Communication Technology, which was newly founded that year, and since 2011 it has been under the President's office.
The Philippines is divided into 14 postal regions, each of which is managed by a regional manager within the organizational structure of PhilPost. Nationwide, the postal company says it employs over 18,000 people in over 2,000 post offices, distribution centers and smaller sales outlets. A fleet of over 2,500 vans and motorbikes is available for delivering the mail.
Postcodes
The ZIP codes in the Philippines have 4 digits and are from the American adopted ZIP code called. Unlike in the USA, however, the postcode is not written after the place name in the Philippines, but must be stated in the address area at the bottom left before the place name, as is common in Europe. In the Metro Manila area , each barangay or district, as well as some companies and institutions with large mail volumes, have a separate zip code. In the rest of the country, each city or municipality has its own zip code, although even very large cities such as Cebu City (6000) and Davao City (8000) only have one zip code each.
