The Philippines Zwergohreule ( Otus mantananensis ) is an owl from the genus of scops owl . It occurs on several small islands in the Philippines .

description

The little owl grows to be 18 to 20 centimeters long and weighs 106 to 110 grams. The gray-brown morph is spotted black and speckled on the upper side and has a whitish shoulder band. The lighter underside is speckled with black. The reddish brown Morpe is more reddish brown. The eyes are yellow, the feather ears conspicuous, the scabbard is grayish horn-colored. The heavily feathered legs have light gray-brown toes with dark horn-colored claws.

Way of life

In addition to forests, the owl also inhabits coconut and casuarina plantations . It hunts insects and other arthropods , and sometimes small vertebrates, at the edges of the forest and in clearings . The call consists of a series of short, deep quuk sounds that can be heard at intervals of five to six seconds.

distribution

O. m. mantananensis occurs on Mantanani northwest of Borneo , Rasa and Ursula . O. m. romblonis by Banton , Romblon , Tablas , Sibuyan , Tres Reyes and Semirara is strongly drawn on the underside. O. m. cuyensis on Cuyo and Calamian is large and noticeably dashed in black. O. m. sibutuensis on Sibutu and Tumindao is mostly dull brown with irregular, inconspicuous markings.
