history

Germany

In 1977 Konrad Honig founded the Philippka-Sportverlag - named after his wife's first name - in order to publish the monthly magazine Deutsche Volleyball-Zeitschrift , DVZ for short , which was renamed Volleyball-Magazin in 2002 . With this step he created a counterpoint to the already existing association magazine Volleyball of the German Volleyball Association , where he worked as an editor and took on other additional tasks.

In the next few years, Philippika steadily expanded its range of various specialist magazines, books and other media for a wide variety of sports. Just one year after the appearance of the DVZ, the publisher published in 1979, every two months, the first specialist magazine for coaches in the sport of handball , which was called the teaching and practice of handball game , renamed in 1986 to handball training , followed in 1982 by another specialist magazine for Trainer, in cooperation with the German Football Association (DFB), named football training .

In the following year 1983 the Philippka-Sportverlag, after being entrusted with this task by the individual associations, took over the further publication of the titles of the German Sports Association and the German Table Tennis Association . Furthermore, the cooperation with the German Handball Federation was intensified, as a result of which the handball magazine was published in 1984 , which appeared over time with changing titles such as Das Handball Premium Magazin (2007 to 2009) and Das Handball Magazin (2009 to 2014) and has been published by the publisher under the title Handball inside since 2015 . During this period, from 1988, the six-part series of titles Handball Handbuch was also published , in which the DHB's approach to training with regard to training with children and adolescents is presented. The first book in the handball handball series , Children's Handball , is still being published today . In 1990, in cooperation with the German Athletics Association, the specialist publication Athletics Training was published, which is still available today.

In parallel to the publication of specialist books and journals as well as magazines for sports fans, Philippka-Sportverlag has increasingly developed into a service provider for the individual associations, with whom it is expanding its collaboration on a professional as well as multimedia level. For example, the publisher is responsible for the "Training online" section on the DFB website, on which it posts new content on the topic of youth training for the various age groups every week, and for the German handball association's application campaign for the 2007 World Cup responsible in Germany.

United States

In 1997, Philippika-Sportverlag expanded its repertoire of specialist magazines with the publication Success in soccer , a sister magazine of the German publication Fußballtraining , which appeared in the United States until 2014 , along with the first online presence of an Internet presence to match the magazine. In this context, the foundation of a subsidiary named Success in Soccer LLC , whose director is Manfred Klar. The publisher is also currently active in the United States. He is responsible for the online presence of the US Soccer Digital Coaching Center (DCC) and supports US Soccer , similar to his commitment to the German Football Association.
