The Batagai photovoltaic system ( Russian Солнечная электростанция Батагай or СЭС Батагай , Solnetschnaja elektrostanzija Batagai or SES Batagai ) is a solar park about 1 km north of the Batagai settlement in the Sakha Republic . It is the largest solar power plant north of the Arctic Circle .

description

So far, the only way to generate electricity for the remote location has been a diesel generator , as Batagai has no connection to the power grid. The power supply on this route was prone to failure and always relied on a sufficiently large diesel supply. Now the solar park and the diesel generator work side by side. The use of solar energy saves up to 300 tons of diesel fuel and corresponding emissions per year  .

On an area of 3.8  hectares , 3360 solar modules from the Chinese manufacturer Suntech Power are installed, each with an output of 300 watts under standard test conditions . Equipment from Germany and Russia was also used in the construction of the facility. The direct voltage from the solar modules is converted into alternating voltage by means of 40 inverters from SMA . The installed capacity of the first expansion stage is 1  MW and was opened on June 23, 2015. There are plans to expand the plant to a capacity of up to 4 MW.

The construction of the solar park was commissioned by the state company "Energy Systems of the East" (a subsidiary of RusHydro ). The company Helios Strategia was awarded the contract in 2014 for 185 million rubles . In 2016 the Russian company Sachaenergo signed an 11-year lease for the facility for just under 189 million rubles.
