The Piccard Cove is a bay on the Danco Coast of Graham lands north of the Antarctic Peninsula . It forms the southernmost part of Wilhelmina Bay .
It was mapped during the Belgica expedition (1897–1899) under the direction of the Belgian polar explorer Adrien de Gerlache de Gomery . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1960 after the Swiss physicist, stratospheric and deep-sea researcher Auguste Piccard (1884–1962), who set a new altitude record in a hydrogen-filled balloon on May 27, 1931 with 15,785 m .
