Pictures in the Dark is a pop / rock song by the English musician Mike Oldfield , which was released on November 15, 1985 by Virgin Records . It is a non-album single. The song was sung by Oldfield together with his girlfriend at the time Anita Hegerland , Barry Palmer and the well-known Welsh choirboy Aled Jones . The song reached high chart positions, especially in German-speaking countries.

The song was later released on compilation albums such as Collection (2002) and The Platinum Collection (2006).

music

Musically, Oldfield mixes synth-pop elements in the rocking song , especially in the quiet bridge , plus Aled Jones' repeated high solo entries before the chorus. Oldfield plays a partly two-part guitar solo. Hegerland and Jones sing together in the bridge. At the end of the play the song by a skidding played one note higher. Oldfield also sings here - Pictures in the Dark is one of the few pieces in which Oldfield sings himself.

The song was released in November 1985. It was written and produced by Oldfield himself.

The song reached high chart positions in Germany , where Oldfield appeared in Peter's Pop Show on ZDF in Dortmund's Westfalenhalle on November 30, 1985 - as in other playback appearances with the song, Aled Jones was replaced by another singer - as well as in Switzerland and in Austria . In the United Kingdom he made it to number 50. On January 22, 1986, Oldfield appeared again with the title on ZDF, this time in Peter Illmann's second program PIT - Peter-Illmann-Treff , which was broadcast from the Mic Mac large discotheque in Kaltenkirchen .

Music video

A music video was released for this single. Anita Hegerland and Aled Jones both appear in the video, but Barry Palmer does not; his singing is mimicked by Oldfield. The video contains some computer graphics. It is available on The Wind Chimes (VHS and Laserdisc) and can also be found on the DVD version of Elements - The Best of Mike Oldfield .
