The Pierre Avoi is a viewpoint in the Lower Valais , above Verbier . The name is explained with 'stone that you have to see' ("pierre à voir"), but this can also be a folk etymological explanation .
The panorama from the summit is impressive: in the south lies the Grand Combin , in the west the Mont Blanc , the Aiguille du Midi and the Grandes Jorasses .
From Verbier , the Pierre Avoi is well developed with hiking trails until just below the summit. The last meters on the summit rock are secured with chains and two ladders.
