Flurin Maissen (* 22. April 1906 in Ilanz as Fidel Maissen ; † 3. April 1999 in Disentis ) was a Swiss Benedictine pater and scientists .

Life

Maissen's parents were the timber manufacturer Augustin Maissen and his wife Anna Maissen, née Cahannes. His brother Augustin Maissen later became a philologist , Alfons Maissen , another brother as well.

Flurin Maissen visited in Engelberg the gymnasium of the seminary . After graduating from high school, he became a novice in the Disentis Monastery . In 1927 and 1928 he studied pedagogy , history, art history and music at the University of Friborg (Switzerland) .

1929 put Maissen with the name of Grisons evangelizers Flurin the profession from 1933 he was ordained and he became Father of the Benedictines.

In Freiburg he studied natural sciences from 1934 to 1936, then became a teacher at the high school of the monastery school and in the following year he obtained his licentiate . In 1944 he was with a dissertation on "Mineral crevices and radiators Surselva" to the doctor doctorate .

In 1965 Maissen worked in the charity in Rumein, a fraction of the community of Degen , but taught at the grammar school in Disentis until 1981. In 1969 he and others founded the institute per studis retoromontsch there . He taught in Disentis until 1981, and worked as a beneficiary until 1998. The following year he died in Disentis at the age of 92.

Act

Maissen was considered a universal scholar . He was called the Green Father because he advocated alternative energies such as solar cells or biogas and wanted to protect the environment. He was also a writer who wrote Romansh .
