The former municipality has a mild location in an inner-alpine, sunny transverse valley facing south. The fractions Rumein , Vattiz and Prada belong to the former municipality . The main sources of income for the population are tourism, trade and agriculture. The Maiensäss landscape, the alpine e-bike road network and the winter cross-country skiing slopes on the grounds of the former municipality are also attractive for tourists.

The Catholic parish church of St. Mary of the Assumption, the chapel of St. Sebastian in the open field west of the village, the chapel of St. Viktor on a hill in the south and the Antonius chapel in Rumein and the chapel of St. Nicholas and Valentine in Vattiz are of cultural and historical interest.

Above Degen, at an altitude of 1,300 meters, is the near-natural swimming lake Davos-Munts, which was created in 1999 and is located in a former fluvio-glacial basin of a late Ice Age basin with an adjacent high moor and, thanks to the resistance of nature conservationists in cooperation with the municipal authorities, as one in 1998 the first artificial bathing lakes in the Alps was created with the aim of strengthening the tourist infrastructure, which proved to be a success.

The neighborhoods of Degen are Vella , Vignogn , Suraua and Obersaxen .

The Benedictine priest and polymath Flurin Maissen lived in Rumein in the second half of the 20th century.
