history
The earliest known mention of the place, in Castrices, comes from 765. The meaning of the name is uncertain. Possibly it goes back to the personal name Castricius , but a derivation from the Latin castrum "defense system" is also being considered.
The village church of St. Georg is mentioned for the first time in 840 as a Carolingian imperial property. Castrisch appears as a separate parish around 1340. In 1537 the community joins the Reformation and consequently separates from Sevgein , who remains Catholic. In 1137/39 nobles from Kästris are attested; The current ruins of Casti , east of the village, are believed to be their seat . In the late Middle Ages, the place belonged to different rulers and bought itself free in 1538.
In 1903 Castrisch was connected to the Rhaetian Railway . In 2014 it joined the newly formed community of Ilanz / Glion .
