coat of arms

Blazon : In red the silver (white) Saint Valentin of Raetia (?) In the episcopal regalia

The figure of the saint comes from the community seals , where it was also depicted as an enthroned figure.

history

The village of Tenna was probably founded by Walsers who immigrated from the Valais , but at that time it was a little higher on the slope. The old village was where the "Tenner Kreuz" stands today. The area of today's scattered settlement Tenna was only made habitable later by clearing. Presumably it originally belonged to the rule of Valendas of the barons of Vaz . That area was inherited from the Counts of Werdenberg-Sargans in 1338 . In 1383 Tenna was separated from Valendas when Count Rudolf von Werdenberg-Sargans sold Tenna to the Barons of Rhäzüns . This led to the establishment of their own small court. It is said to have had its own seal in 1390. From 1424 Tenna was turned towards the Gray League . When the barons of Rhäzüns died out, Tenna came to Hohenzollern-Hechingen in 1461 and only became part of Graubünden in 1819 .

In the 20th century, Tenna was a quiet, sunny climatic health resort with a view of the Graubünden mountains. Today the valley lives from mountain agriculture, gentle tourism and support payments from the federal government, canton and sponsored communities.

The name Tenna is 1398 in the forms Thena , Thäna , Thenna . It is associated with the word Tenn (e) ‹closed space for storing equipment, hay & c.›. Since Tenna or Tenno is the name of other localities in Trentino and Piedmont, it could perhaps also go back to an older language class, but such an early settlement still remains to be proven. ,

The world's first solar ski lift was built in Tenna in November 2011. The 450 meter long drag lift is equipped with 82 solar wings. The wings, each with three panels, are attached to suspension cables a few meters above the lift. They deliver an annual output of around 90,000 kWh, of which around 25,000 kWh are required for ski lift operation.

Others

In 2011, Tenna was the scene of the Swiss television program SF bi de Lüt , and several episodes reported on the daily life of various village people and the construction of the solar ski lift.

The restaurant and the Pension Alpenblick in the middle of the village, right next to the post office, have a decisive influence on the townscape and village life. The hotel was built as a climatic health resort and was owned by the municipality of Uzwil , with which Tenna has a close relationship , for a little more than 60 years . In December 2015, the building was transferred to the TennaPlus association, which was founded in 2014. This happened under the condition that the touristic operation in the Alpenblick be maintained.
