The coat of arms symbolizes the scenic location of the place and the picturesque effect of the church of St. Zeno of Ladir.

geography

Ladir is a mountain farming village in a gently sloping hollow on the left bank (= northern) slope of the Vorderrhein Valley high above the valley floor of Ilanz with part of the Vorab glacier . 363 hectares of the entire former municipal area of 721 hectares are used for agriculture (mostly as alpine pastures ). Forest and woodland cover 304 hectares of the former municipal area; a further 35 ha are unproductive areas (mostly mountains) and 19 ha are settlement areas. In the lower part of the village, Ladir turns into Ruschein .

history

The area has been inhabited for thousands of years. Enigmatic stone circles stand in the landscape, the astronomical alignment of which is related to the position of the sun. Coins from the 8th century were found in a crevice. The place is mentioned by name for the first time in 831 in an imperial surbar . In the Middle Ages there were numerous free farmers. When some of the residents converted to Reformed doctrine in 1556, these people were forced to emigrate or return to the Catholic Church. Ladir only became an independent political municipality in 1851. In the 19th century there were two major fires: while a large part of the forest was destroyed in the first fire in 1848, in the major fire of October 14, 1891, due to careless handling of fire almost the entire village by two boys.
