The Vorab glacier ( Rhaeto-Romanic Glatscher dil Vorab ? / I ) is a glacier on the eastern flank of the Vorab in the Swiss cantons of Glarus and Graubünden . The name is probably explained by the Glarus people, according to which the glacier is "in front of" the canton border and slopes down towards the south ("abe" in dialect). Audio file / audio sample

It is located at an average altitude of about 2700  m and is part of the municipal areas of Glarus Süd and Laax . In the Glarnerland it reaches a height of 3,018  m .

On the glacier there is a mountain airfield for airplanes ( location ). To the east of the glacier, the highest high-voltage power line in Europe, the pre-discharge , leads over the glacier plateau.

Ski Area

The Vorab glacier is part of the “Weisse Arena” Flims - Laax - Falera ski area and is accessed by a double ski lift. Ibex , chamois and ptarmigan live in its vicinity .

Future of the glacier

The glacier has receded sharply in the last 30 years and has been conserved with white cloth by the mountain railway company since 2007 in the upper steep slope in the summer.
