Pierre Boutroux
Pierre Boutroux (born December 6, 1880 in Paris , † August 15, 1922 in France ) was a French mathematician and historian of science .
He was the son of the philosopher Émile Boutroux and his wife Aline Catherine Eugénie Boutroux, née Poincaré, the sister of the mathematician Henri Poincaré . One cousin was the future French President (1913–1920) Raymond Poincaré .
Boutroux was best known for his work on the history and philosophy of mathematics . At Princeton University he held a chair in mathematics from 1913 to 1914 and at the Collège de France a chair in the history of science from 1920 to 1922.
With his main work Les principes de l'analyse mathématique in two volumes (1914 and 1919), Boutroux gives a comprehensive overview of the entire field of mathematics in the course of history.
