Pierre Curzi
Pierre Curzi (born February 11, 1946 in Montréal , Québec ) is a Canadian actor and politician .
Life
Curzi lives in Montréal, where he graduated from the National Theater School . He began his professional career in 1969 and has appeared in more than 50 productions in theater, television and film. He is married to the actress Marie Tifo.
Curzi is best known for his role in two films by director Denys Arcand with Rémy Girard , the Oscar- nominated comedy The Fall of the American Empire (1986) and the Oscar-winning tragic comedy The Invasion of the Barbarians (2003) based on it.
Curzi received a total of four nominations for Genie Awards , namely in 1984 as best leading actor for Deadly Friendship ( Lucien Brouillard ) and as best supporting actor for Maria Chapdelaine (made into a film based on the novel of the same name ), and in 1987 as best leading actor for The Fall of the American Imperiums and Best Original Screenplay for In the Shadow of Power ( Pouvoir intime ), shared with Yves Simoneau . In 2007 he received a tribute at the Prix Jutra .
From 1998 to 2006 Curzi was President of the Union des artistes ( UDA ), the French-speaking actors' union in Québec. At the beginning of 2007 he retired from acting and embarked on a political career in the Parti Québécois .
