Remy Girard

Rémy Girard (born August 10, 1950 in Jonquière , Québec ) is a Canadian actor .

Life

Rémy Girard studied law at Laval University in 1969 and joined the Troupe des Treize theater company in Québec . At the age of 21 he was already working as a professional theater actor, director and writer. He is the co-author of La Déprime . On the stage, he portrayed John Falstaff in The Merry Wives of Windsor ( Les Joyeuses Commères de Windsor ) by William Shakespeare , directed by Yves Desgagnés . He also appeared in the pieces L'Ouvre-boîte by Victor Lanoux, Don Quixote ( Don Quichotte ) by Miguel de Cervantes , The Imaginary Sick ( Le Malade imaginaire ) by Molière and Waiting for Godot ( En attendant Godot ) by Samuel Beckett .

Girard has worked in television films, television series (e.g. Scoop - Die Aufreißer mit Macha Grenon ), television commercials and movies and shines above all in tragic-comic roles. He achieved international fame with the lead role in the Oscar- nominated film The Fall of the American Empire (1986) alongside Pierre Curzi , directed by Denys Arcand . He worked with this director on numerous occasions, including in the Oscar-nominated drama Jesus of Montreal (1989) and the Oscar-winning tragic comedy The Barbarian Invasion (2003), in which Girard played the lead role. He played a small supporting role as a customs officer in the film drama The Red Violin (1998), which won an Oscar for the original music by John Corigliano . Director Charles Binamé cast supporting roles with him in the tragic love story Séraphin: un homme et son péché (2002) and in the ice hockey film Maurice Richard (2005). Girard can be seen in several films together with the Canadian actor Roy Dupuis . In the television miniseries Human Trafficking (2005) by director Christian Duguay , he portrayed a father in search of his daughter.
