Pierre Jean Baptiste Louis Dumont , pseudonym André Jallot (born March 29, 1884 in Paris , † April 8, 1936 there ) was a French painter .

biography

Pierre Dumont spent his youth in Rouen , where his father had been a high school teacher for science subjects at the Pierre Corneille Lyceum since 1887. Pierre Dumont attended the same school.

Pierre Dumont studied painting in Rouen in the Académie libre founded by Joseph Delattre in 1896. Avant-garde artists, including the painters Marcel Duchamp and Robert Antoine Pinchon and the writer Francis Yard , met in this "free academy" . Together with Pinchon, Dumont founded the Group of Thirty (groupe des XXX) in 1907 , from which the Société Normande de Peinture Moderne emerged a little later.

Dumont's first works were under the influence of Vincent van Gogh and Paul Cezanne . Around 1912, under the influence of Jacques Villon , Dumont created his first Cubist paintings. In October 1912 Dumont published the short-lived magazine La Section d'Or (The Golden Ratio) as a publication by the artist group of the same name.

Friends of Max Jacob , André Lhote , Juan Gris and Francis Picabia , Pierre Dumont moved to Paris, where he set up a studio in the Bateau-Lavoir .

By 1927 his health deteriorated rapidly. In the last two years of his life he could only paint with his left hand. He died in the Saint-Antoine hospital a few days after his wife.

He left about 2800 to 3000 pictures.
