Pierre Joseph Henry Baudet (born January 22, 1891 in Baarn , † December 25, 1921 in The Hague ) was a Dutch mathematician.

Baudet was the son of the neurologist Henri Philippe Baudet. From 1908 he studied mathematics at the University of Leiden under Jan Cornelis Kluyver with the doctoral exam in 1914 and was then a mathematics teacher at the municipal high school in The Hague, which he had attended himself. In 1918 he received his doctorate under JA Barrau at the University of Groningen ( group theoretical studies , Dutch). In 1919 he became a professor at the Technical University of Delft , but died in 1921 of pneumonia.

He is known for Baudet's conjecture ( formulated independently of Issai Schur ): if the natural numbers are divided into two classes, at least one arithmetic progression of any length contains. Soon afterwards Bartel Leendert van der Waerden proved it along with a generalization.

He was a good cellist and pianist, spoke many languages ​​(four Eastern Europeans alone) and was a passionate chess player and Laska player.
