Werner Starke (lawyer)

Werner Starke (* around 1540 in Lübeck ; † June 2, 1584 ibid) was a German lawyer, secretary of the Hanseatic Office in Bergen and council secretary of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.

Life

Werner Starke studied law at the University of Rostock from 1561 . He completed his studies with a doctorate.

Evidently he worked from 1568 as secretary of the Hanseatic Office in Bergen (Norway) on the Bryggen .

During a stay in Lübeck in 1574, he authorized the former Lübeck council secretary Christoph Messerschmidt as well as his brother-in-law to represent him in a lawsuit against Elsabe Knockert, the sister of Lübeck council secretary Franciscus Knockert , for breach of the promise of marriage .

In 1577 he quit his job for the mountain drivers from Lübeck, but stayed in Bergen until his successor Werner Schellenberg arrived .

At the end of 1579 he married Gertrud Dalemann in Lübeck and had a daughter with her.

On May 2, 1584 he was appointed third council secretary (registrar) in Lübeck, but died a month later.
