from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pierre Landry (* 1630 in Paris ; † December 11, 1701 there ) was a French engraver and publisher of the 17th century.

life and work

Landry created a large number of copper-engraved portraits of personalities of his time based on the models of recognized artists. As a publisher, he also had such copper engravings made by other close engravers such as François Langot on a commission basis. He was called "  peintre graveur et sculpteur  ". Charles Le Blanc gives a catalog raisonné in his Manuel de l'amateur d'estampes , published in Paris in 1856 . He was buried on December 12, 1701 at the age of 71.

family

Landry's family connection requires a differentiated presentation because it represents the center of an artist family . His first marriage was to Gabrielle (nee de Routau [lt], or Drouteau, different spellings). Several children were born from this marriage.

  • Marguerite, baptized in St. Benoît on October 19, 1660; Godparents were the lawyer Thomas Perillot and Marguerite Isaac, wife of the engraver Nicolas de Regnesson.
  • Margueritte-Agnès, baptized in St. Benoît on September 14, 1661; The godparents were the printer Jean Cusson and the laundress Marguerite Noblein.
  • Elisabeth, baptized at St. Benoît on April 24, 1667; Godfathers were the bookseller Jean du Pins and Élisabeth Erragain, wife of the bookseller Denys Thierry.
  • A son Denis (1666–1713), baptized in St. Benoît on February 14, 1666; The bookseller Denys Thierry and Marie Piget, wife of the dealer Pierre Mariette, will be godparents. Denis Landry also worked as a publisher of copperplate engravings; he died on April 2nd, 1713.
  • The second son François Landry (1669-1720) was active as a copper engraver, albeit to a lesser extent than his father. In 1718 he engraved the theses Allégorie en l'honneur du Régent in honor of the Duke of Orleans. He died on January 26, 1720.

On November 11, 1697 he married Élisabeth-Louise (de Hucqueville), a daughter of Louis and Claire du Ceil.

  • A younger painter named Pierre Landry became a member of the Luke Academy in Paris in 1691 , without the family relationship to the above becoming clear.
