Pierre Rolland (chess player)
Pierre Auguste Marie Rolland (born September 9, 1926 in Bram (Aude) , † February 10, 1967 in Castelnau-Rivière-Basse ) was a French chess player and professor of philosophy .
Rolland, who only started chess at the age of 17 or 18 in the Bordeaux club L'Echiquier d'Aquitaine , won the French championship in 1956 and in the same year took part in the team world championship for students with France. After that he lived in Algeria for professional reasons and was less active in chess. He later received a professorship in philosophy at the University of Tarbes.
In 1966, Rolland met a standard for the title of International Master at the Grand Masters Tournament in Le Havre . He was killed in a traffic accident.
