Pierre d'Oron († 12th / 18th February 1287 ) was from 1273 to 1287 Bishop of Sion .

Life

Pierre d'Oron comes from the Vaud noble family of the Lords of Oron . Pierre was the son of Rodolphe, Lord of Oron and Alice. Pierre, first mentioned in 1236, was dean of Vevey in 1271 and canon in Lausanne in 1272 . He was elected Bishop of Sion by the cathedral chapter in a double election in 1274 . After the death of his rival Heinrich von Raron in 1274, he was finally able to assert himself as bishop in 1275. In relation to the empire he stood on the side of Savoy . The disputes between Rudolf von Habsburg and Philip I of Savoy over Burgundy prompted him to fortify the episcopal castles of Martigny and Montorge. During his tenure, Vaudois were increasingly included in the cathedral monastery, which strengthened the Savoyard influence in the diocese.
