The Oron are mentioned for the first time in the 12th century as castellates of the Abbey of Saint-Maurice d'Agaune . Oron-le-Châtel with the family's castle of the same name also belonged to the abbey . In addition to the Oron rule, the family also owned the Attalens and Bossonnens and, together with the Blonay, rights over Vevey . The d'Oron go back to Guillaume II († before 1215). After the death of his son Rudolf († after 1244) the family split, Attalens and Bossonnens fell to Rudolf's youngest son Amadeus. The Oron were vassals of the Counts of Geneva at the beginning of the 13th century , but later they increasingly entered the service of the Counts of Savoy . They took part on the side of Savoy in the campaigns in the Pays de Gex , in the Valais , in the Hundred Years War and in the crusade of Count Amadeus VI. The family provided a bishop each from Lausanne and Sitten . When the family died out at the end of the 14th century, their property fell to the Counts of Gruyères . The family's grave was in Haut-Crêt .
