history

The first traces of settlement are caves carved into erratic blocks. In 1829 a Roman villa with underground baths was discovered. The building was built in the 1st century and destroyed around 260. It seems that around this time the first Alemanni settled in the region. It is also the Alemanni who gave the place its name. The place name is mentioned for the first time around the year one thousand (between 971 and 1011) under the form of Bucenens .

In the second half of the 12th century, Bossonnens Castle was built by the Blonay family. The heyday of Bossonnens Castle was short-lived, and the city of Freiburg took over the estate as early as 1536. Today the castle is in ruins and Bossonnens is a small village in the hinterland of the city of Vevey .
