history

The first written mention of the place took place in 1278 under the name Rubea aqua (red water). In the Middle Ages , when La Rougève and the neighboring La Rogivue formed a community in what is now the canton of Vaud, a noble family is mentioned that took the name of the village. Around 1300 the village came under the rule of Bossonnen.

Only after the Reformation did the community separate. The Catholic part of the community came under the name of La Rougève under Freiburg rule and was assigned as an exclave to the Vogtei Bossonnens, while the Reformed part belonged to the Bernese bailiwick Oron . From 1615 La Rougève belonged to the bailiwick of Attalens. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), the village belonged to what was then the Châtel-Saint-Denis district during the Helvetic and the following period before being incorporated into the Veveyse district in 1848.

On January 1, 1968, La Rougève joined the neighboring community of Semsales as part of a community merger . The neighboring, formerly also independent municipality of La Rogivue was incorporated into Maracon in 2003 .
