history
The discoveries of a Roman road and Burgundian graves testify that Attalens has been settled since ancient times. Attalens was first mentioned in writing as Haltningum in 867 . In the Middle Ages, the dukes of Savoy and the feudal lords of Oron fought over possession of Attalens. Most recently it was taken over by De Challant. This, through debt, sold the property to Freiburg in 1615. Attalens became a bailiwick until 1798.
