from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pierre d'Oron († March 27, 1323 ) was Bishop of Lausanne from 1313 to 1323 .

Life

Pierre d'Oron comes from the Vaud noble family of the Lords of Oron . He was the son of Pierre d'Oron, co-lord of Vevey. Pierre is recorded as a canon in Toul from 1298 . After the death of his predecessor Othon de Champvent , the diocese remained vacant for over a year, which led to unrest among the citizens of Lausanne until Pope Clement V appointed Pierre Bishop of Lausanne at the end of 1313. When the diocese came into conflict with the Counts of Geneva, Louis II of Savoy , Lord of Vaud, who conquered the episcopal castles of Gourze and Villarzel , Pierre renewed the alliance with Count Amadeus V of Savoy. He confirmed the shares in the jurisdiction of the city of Lausanne that his predecessor, Jean de Cossonay, had given to the Count of Savoy. In 1317/18 he stayed with Pope John XXII. in Avignon . Around 1320 the diocese was in serious financial trouble, after the devastation of the war and a drought of more than two years, the cathedral of Lausanne was damaged in a fire.
