Pierre du Diable (La Garnache)
The menhir Pierre du Diable ( German devil stone ; also menhir de la Grande-Émonnière called) is located southwest of La Garnache in the northwest of the Vendée department in France . It is one of several boulders , menhirs or dolmens with this name - also in the plural as "Les Pierres" (in Allinges, Arq, Artas, Beuvry, Jambes, Haillot , Layrisse, Lécluse , Saint Pierre des Nids , Soubise and Vitrac in Belgium, France and Switzerland).
The menhir, discovered in 1907, was mentioned by Abbot Baudry as early as 1864. It consists of a cuboid 2.2 m high and 2.3 m wide, which was rammed 0.2 m into the ground. Its weight is about 5.0 tons. The fallen stone was erected in 1933 by Marcel Baudouin (1860–1941) and classified as a Monument historique in 1934 .
